IWSG - a musical interlude

Another first Wednesday of the month... here's the list of other members.

I started writing this post a couple of days ago, and a moment ago I deleted it all, because it was too depressing - eg. Amazon rankings seem to imply that one of my books is lower in rank than they actually have books to rank.

So, instead, I am going to provide a musical interlude. Which can also double up as background music while you read other members posts if you open another tab.

Hopefully I'll feel more positive next month!

Edited 4 March 2015, 18:49: I'm not really too hung up on the rankings, I just thought that being 9 millionth and something out of (to quote) over 8 million books was kinda funny :-)

  1. Sorry you are feeling down this month Annalisa. I did enjoy your musical interlude whilst I drank my morning cuppa!

    1. It's a lot of little thing, including (and mostly) Hubby being away for 5 weeks. But he's due back at the weekend, so I'm expecting to feel much better soon. Dancing to the video also helped a lot!

  3. Whoa! I can see why that would be distressing. Just give things a chance and I'm sure they'll get better by next month. Stay happy!

    1. I'm not distressed, really, more pointing out the absurdity in a grumpy way :-)

      Thanks for co-hosting today, Ken.

    1. I'm waiting for that moment I'm discovered my Oprah, or Keira Knightly reads one of my books and tells her friends, and the national press :-)

  5. I'm sorry you're feeling down. I know those rankings can be very discouraging. Hang in there.

  6. Don't stress the rankings. No way you could've hit the bottom.

    1. I know you're right, Alex. But if I was, I could market it as 'the last book on Amazon' :-)

  7. Sorry to hear you're feeling down. If it helps at all, you're not alone in that amazon ranking basement.

Also, excellent song. That will now be stuck in my head for the remainder of the day...

    1. The song is usually stuck in my head - and I'm sure I get the words mixed up, so it's good to have the original to refer to :-)

I've decided to ignore book sales and focus on the next book... Hmmm... I should really have an idea for the next book, shouldn't I?

  8. I wouldn't trust Amazon too much - they're amazingly secretive at the way their rankings work, so it might just be a glitch or something :). But hang in there, you're doing great and things will get better!
    P.S. Love this song!

    1. Thanks Rachel - I hope so! It is a great song, isn't it? I hadn't seen the video for a very long time - it's pretty awesome too.

  9. I hate Amazon's ranking. I no longer pay attention to it and do what I can to market my books instead knowing it's all I can do.

    1. I have phases where I can't help but have a look. I should douse my head in cold water whenever I think about checking the rankings - that would stop me :-)

  10. I know what you mean about the Amazon rankings - quite often they're no fun at all. I try not to look, but it's hard no to, isn't it?

    1. I check on the off-chance that a hundred people have bought them and shot me up to #9... One day... one day :-)

  11. keep smiling and writing. Trust me, I don't think I even get a ranking anymore. They have a basement for numbers beyond google. Music brings joy.

  12. Sorry Annalisa. Chin up, things can always get better. Personally, I don't think you should watch the rankings anymore. Just do the best you can on the writing end. You did a great job on all your books and that is what counts.

  13. In many ways amazon strikes blows to the aspiring author's ego quite frequently. Take heart. You are not alone. Just brush it off and carry on.

    1. I read an interesting article recently about how they set up the algorithms - they are definitely skewed towards the books mostly likely to succeed anyway!

  15. Murees is right, the rankings just get you down and hinder your creative spirit. Looking at any rankings for me puts a huge damper on what I post. I'm my best self when I focus on all the fun I'm having making things and not on who ISN'T liking what I make. Just keep writing. :) Great video interlude!

    1. I write best when I have negative thoughts. If I'm too happy, the stories vanish into a cloud of chocolate fumes.

  16. I look at rankings the way I do reviews. Write the next book! You'll have so much fun you won't have time to look at rankings (or reviews).

    1. I must be writing wrong - my stories seem to drain me, dragging every emotion from my body. It's not so much fun as a compulsion :-)

  17. Don't let the rankings get you down. I myself don't look at rankings before I decide whether or not I would buy a book.

    1. Wow, you're so right - I don't look at the ratings of books I'm buying either!!! So, why do mine matter?? Thank you for pointing out what ought to be obvious! :-)
