Just a little bit starstruck

I'm not really here today, I'm over on the most awesome blogger ever's blog, the Ninja Captain himself, Mr Alex J Cavanaugh talking about what I would be if I wasn't a writer. It's a huge honour to have been invited over - I hope I don't make a fool of myself.

In other news, I sent off a submission this weekend, and felt nothing - no terror, no fear, no excitement. The submission was an open request to a massive publisher, so I assume they will be completely inundated. There's really no point getting your hopes on for such a small window of possibility. If anything comes of it, then I can be excited!

I've also been watching as many World Cup games as I can. It was great watching Spain lose, less so watching England lose. Although, the consensus is, they played well, so hopefully the other two games in our group will be easier.

I have a problem though... I wore England pants, and England lost. Do I risk wearing them next time they play, or are they now unlucky pants which I should avoid wearing? Your advice will be most welcome!

  2. Try wearing an England shirt instead and see what happens.

    1. I'll try that on Thursday, Diane, but if it works I'm going to have a problem in the next game - I'll be working, in uniform!

    Happy to host you today!

  4. I know when my teams play, if an article of clothing I'm wearing results in a loss, then I will not wear it again on a game day. It is immediately taken out of the game day rotation. I will find something else to wear. Like Diane said, try an England shirt.

    1. Well, that means my dressing gown is out already - luckily the other games don't span across midnight!

  5. Hi Annalisa .. sounds like a change of pants is required for Thursday ... oh yes I'm over to Alex' to meet up with you there .. no wonder you're star struck ... have a good week and let's hope Thursday is good for us English ..

  6. I TOLD you about those pants - you can't just buy new ones and call them lucky pants, they have to be proven to be lucky! (Yeah, I know you have to start somewhere lol). My bulldog t-shirt didn't work either, so perhaps I will try the Becks one next time - maybe the mocking slogan will make them try harder! :D

    1. I'll just have to go and buy more pants, until I find the lucky ones then ;-)

I thought you were on to a winner with the bulldog t-shirt. Definitely try the Becks one next!

  7. What you'd be if you weren't a writer... That has to be a tough question to answer! Heading over now.

  8. Don't wear them! Don't wear them!

  9. Don't wear them! Don't wear them!

I don't think I even want to subject myself to the heartache of watching England play...

    1. Lol, I love the way your double post makes you seem really passionate about my lucky apparel! (I couldn't bring myself to write 'passionate about my pants' hehehe)

You gotta watch, no matter what... You're English, you have to suffer with the rest of us!

  10. very impressed that you appear on Alex's blog. That is a pinnacle achievement. My husband tried watching some World Cup and said he never saw such flopping about in his life. Those players get Academy Awards for injury acting. I'll root for England without actually watching. Good luck

    1. There was a lot of flopping and rolling around by Honduras yesterday. Some teams play fair, other teams... don't. It can be embarrassing, especially when the replays show exactly what happened!

  11. Hmm, I never thought that pants make you unlucky. *putting all my pants into bag for Goodwill.* No, I refuse to believe it, Annalisa. Wear the England pants with pride. They will win the game and redeem themselves if you do. Smiles.

    1. I believe! And I might wear them with pride... Or... argh! What if they lose and it's all my fault because I didn't wear the right thing??

  12. Forget the pants. See how that pans out! Joke :)

  13. I enjoyed reading your spot on Alex's blog! I have a team NFL jersey that I wear on game day. My team sucks the last couple of years so to me it doesn't matter if I wear it or not they still lose. :/

    1. Actually, that sounds a little bit like England playing any international game... I still believe, though!

  14. Yes, those pants are now unlucky for this year. Sorry.

  16. Hi Annalisa,

Well done and I was over there and now I'm over here to say well done, again :) Glad you made it to the ninja dude's site and got featured. You did a superb job, dear lady.

Next game, wear your Uruguay pants! That should work! :)

I think luck has to do with the heart, not the clothing.

    1. Aw thank you :-)

As Spain have already been knocked out in their 2nd game, I don't think I'll be risking my pants tomorrow!!

  19. Congratulations for making it onto Alex's blog. As far as the pants go, I think even if they were lucky before, they lost the magic the first time your team lost. Find something else to wear.

  20. Will see you NInja style next then :) Isn't strange how the submission process works that way after a point? Does that mean we've become jaded writers? Maybe just worn out. lol

    1. I don't feel jaded - perhaps I just know there are other routes I can take, and that people have liked what I've written so far.

  21. Hmmm... unfortunately, I think those are now unlucky pants. I say this as a dedicated Red Sox fan, so I know my superstitious sports craziness ;)

  22. Congrats on your new book! And good luck on the submission. I feel the same way about those kinds of things--when you've been around the block enough times, you know not to get your hopes up too early. But, boy, is it hard not to...

    1. Just watched the Italy v Costa Rica game which confirmed England are out. The pants will be cut up and buried in the garden, dug up and burnt while I sing Three Lions through my sad, pathetic tears... Or I might go and put the kettle on...

  24. Wishing you heaps of luck with your submission. They're not easy but taking a calm approach is the way to go. Good luck!

  25. Good luck with your submission. As for the pants: I think I'd deem them unlucky now. :)

    1. They have proven themselves beyond unlucky, Dana. I'm off to cry into my pillow :-(

  26. In my house you wouldn't be allowed to wear those pants again and you would probably be banned from the TV room. Congratulations on your submission and for being on the ninja captain't blog.

    1. I will restrict myself to only wearing them when England aren't playing any sport anywhere - that should be safe :-)

  27. Great guest post at Alex's! I loved Wonder Woman too. I really hope she gets her own superhero movie soon and they do it well. Good luck with your submission and have a great weekend! :)

    1. If they've gone to the trouble of bringing her into Batman v Superman, I'm sure they're planning an Avengers-style franchise. But, yes, I agree, they have to do it well - probably more so than the other superheroes because she's been ignored for so long. Have a good weekend yourself :-)

  28. Well if you wore them for the last match, you should probably burn them! I'm indifferent to the World Cup and football, but I can't help laughing at England's failures... unpatriotic of me, but I don't live there any more!

Just been to Alex's (late, I know). Yep, Wonder Woman is definitely one of the greatest superheroes!
