Nothing to declare!

So, the big question is: what do I blog about when I've got nothing to blog about?

I've been pretty busy this week, but not with writing so much. I spring-cleaned my bedroom - I even (for the first time ever) donated four books to a charity shop. I don't usually donate books, because I can't bear to part with them... But the four I donated were different, so they went. Of course, it means I still have piles of books in my bedroom which need shelves, but probably will never get them.

I rewrote a short story, although it's still not exactly what I was hoping it would be. Do you ever have a vision of genius, but not the skill to pull it off? Yeah, that's what happened with this one. I'll probably submit it to a competition anyway - I'm at the stage where I just need to feel my work is being considered by someone.

Today, I might start on another rewrite. Or maybe it's time to sit down and read one of the books I've been buying recently?

Or I might go out for a very long walk to pre-empt all the calories I'll be eating when Hubby comes back from tour with the customary box of Belgian chocolates.

Have a lovely weekend!

  2. I feel kind of the same way. So much has been going on here—I've been doing so much—but I feel like I have nothing to blog about. It's a strange feeling...

Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  3. Go for a walk, get inspired, and then go write. Best of both worlds.

    1. I did go for the walk, Alex, and dragged the kids along. Not so much inspiration, though, just listening to them complaining about how far we were going :-)

  4. Belgian choccys - now that's making me crave a wee piece! I shall just have to get out and avoid the chocolate ...

Enjoy having hubby home again - everyone will be happy .. cheers Hilary

    1. The chocolates are lovely - I'm going to have to use all my willpower not to eat them all today!!

  5. I've given up chocolate for Lent at the moment so I will have to hold off on those cravings for a while! I would certainly say take a walk in the sun, never know how long it's going last. I've been rewriting a short story I wanted to enter in a competition for a couple of weeks now. Like you, I know the mood I'm trying to create but not quite there yet. Maybe I'll get chance to sit down and have another bash at it tomorrow.

    1. Good look with the rewrite. It's frustrating when you get a little stuck like that, because usually the smallest tweak will make it work.

  6. I'm feeling the same at the moment - I can't decide what to do. There's so much to do and checking out all the blogs takes me forever!
Enjoy your weekend, and the chocs, Annalisa.

  7. So what did you decide?
Hope it was a combination of walking, writing & reading... that's a win-win-win...

    1. A beautiful sunny walk, and I finished writing my story, and submitted it to a competition too. Must read soon though, I've got so many books lined up and ready to go.

  8. I've got piles of books everywhere, I really need another bookshelf. Or I could just stop buying them...no, definitely a new bookshelf. Have a great weekend :)

  9. I desperately need to spring clean. There is just never enough time for everything.

I don't believe for a sec that you don't have the genius to pull off anything. But I do know what you're saying. My first action scene was tough for me to write, so I read a few books with a little more violence than I usually read and that helped me over the hump.

  10. sometimes there are books that need to leave - consider yourself a good person. You are sharing them with the world. Plus, if you are like me - if you get rid of 4, somehow 8 show up. It's nice to luxuriate in "what shall I do moments" and even choose a whole lot of nothing. Enjoy your time with no regrets. And you could just post a pic of Belgian chocolates - yum

Thank you. Love love, Andrew. Bye.

  12. I had a similar weekend. Sorted out my file of short stories and weeded a couple of disappointing books out of my shelves. Then made a cake, sat in the sun and read, and generally lazed. It does the brain cells good to rest sometimes.

  13. Sometimes it's good just to get a piece of work sent somewhere to feel like you've done something. As you say, at least someone is looking at it and it can give you a boost to do it again.

  15. I have a handful of mss hidden in the closet that I loved - and still love! - the idea but I don't think I quite have the skill or focus to write them the way I want to, or that they deserve. Hopefully one of these days, I will! :)

I usually donate books I liked but didn't love, and I go through the shelves a couple of times a year to purge…and make room for new books, of course. :)

  20. Hi human, Annalisa,

Maybe start a rewrite and read a book at the same time. You know that my posing the question about what to blog about actually becomes a topic for a pawsting.

Ah yes, Belgian chocolate. As in real chocolate. North America should be well jealous :)

  27. I don't really like donating books either. :) My mother in law was a avid reader of Harlequin Romance Novels and she kept them neatly boxed in her attic. She had many dating back to the early 1950's. After she passed away we donated all of her Harlequin's. I wish now I had kept some especially the older books. Then after realizing I donated a book many years ago and now I can't find it and want to read it again I will be very careful which books I do donate in the future.
