Too many words

This morning I was inspired by a dream, but as I woke up, the images evaporated.

On my dog-walk, a whole heap of words flew at me, for a completely different story.

Sitting here, after lunch, and staring at an unexpectedly high water bill, another story jumped up, waved about a bit and disappeared from view.

I haven't been able to capture any of these stories, because the words are currently reminiscent of abstract oil paintings with wings.

Three stories, though... If they ever decide to gravitate towards me, I'll be busy.

Anyway, it's the last day of March, the day when previously sane bloggers worry about the A-Z Challenge they're about to undertake. I've done it twice since I started my blog, but April is usually a bad month for me, and I can't always spare the amount of time that it takes. I'll sit back and enjoy everyone else's posts though. Have a great month!

  1. I had an unexpectedly high internet bill. It didn't inspire a story, only high blood pressure.

I will have those passing story ideas and I'll jot them down on whatever scraps of paper I can find. Then I'll find these scraps and wonder what the hell I was thinking.

    1. The bill didn't inspire the story, it was a disagreeable distraction. Yes, random ideas make no sense sometimes, even if they were so clear when you wrote them down!

  2. I'll be sitting back and enjoying everyone's A-Z posts this time around, too. As I work on my WiP, of course. :)

    1. Sometimes it's nice to just observe. Enjoy the WIP :-)

  3. You have been so busy and doing a lot of writing. We can't all do A to Z - someone has to be our audience. You are valuable in April. Enjoy

    1. It's a much more relaxed way to approach the challenge, and I don't get the guilt of not visiting people if I don't have time.

  4. Take the month and see if those stories don't return.

    1. They are lingering, Alex, so I'm sure I'll pin them down at some point.

  5. It's great that you have so many ideas jumping at you. I'm not doing A-Z either. Good-luck with your writing in April.

    1. Yes, having ideas that aren't sticking is better than having none at all :-)

  6. I hate it when the ideas are so fleeting they don't get a chance to take root.

    1. Especially when one is just a feeling at the moment, Diane. What am I supposed to do with that?? :-)

  7. It's too bad that it's difficult (and sometimes impossible) to remember dreams; I read somewhere that the dreams often reveal a lot about our mindset and whatever is most important to us at that particular time.

  9. I keep to my blogging schedule except for April. Then I crash because I'm blogged out. Almost didn't do it this year, but succumbed, so there I am on A again.

    1. That's what happened to me last year, Lee - I signed up fairly late on, on a whim. The whim didn't occur this year, thank goodness.

  10. I'm sitting the A-Z this year too. I hope those story ideas come together for you as I'm sure they are all great ones. Glad I got to see your handsome doggie again with this post! ;)

    1. The post looked a bit bare. He doesn't usually stand still long enough for photos, so when I get one, I like to show it off :-)

    1. Oh, that would be perfect, wouldn't it, Tara? Although, thinking back to some of my recent dreams, maybe not... :-)

  12. I'm also in a situation where two ideas seem to be only just out of my grasp. But I figure they'll come back once they're a bit more solid.

  13. Just because the story ideas disappeared now doesn't mean they won't be back - and maybe they'll bring friends. Sometimes they just aren't ready to come out and play, and they need time to get revved up. Be patient and I'm sure you'll get what you need. Have a lovely weekend! :)

    1. That's a great way to look at it. I'm used to my subconscious churning away in the background - I'm sure they'll pop out at some point :-)

  14. Perhaps your words need water wings to keep them floating in all that water you've purchased. I'm going to miss your contributions to A-Z Challenge this year, but glad at least that you will be visiting some of us with your pithy comments!

    1. Hey Keith, very late reply. The A-Z has returned to myth status for another year, and those stories have yet to appear :-(

  16. I've had that happen. Two stories coming at me at once. Sadly I haven't had the time to pick up either project because real life just sort of feels it stopped for a time. I need to clear my mind of other things and hopefully in time pick back up where I left off. I always thought that just happened to me.

    1. I'm sure your writing will return at some point... obviously some very inconvenient point because that's what writing does. Take care x
