Cover Reveal - Seismic Crimes by Chrys Fey

BLURB:

An Internal Affairs Investigator was murdered and his brother, Donovan Goldwyn, was framed. Now Donovan is desperate to prove his innocence. And the one person who can do that is the woman who saved him from a deadly hurricane—Beth Kennedy. From the moment their fates intertwined, passion consumed him. He wants her in his arms. More, he wants her by his side in his darkest moments.

Beth Kennedy may not know everything about Donovan, but she can’t deny what she feels for him. It’s her love for him that pushes her to do whatever she has to do to help him get justice, including putting herself in a criminal’s crosshairs.

When a tip reveals the killer's location, they travel to California, but then an earthquake of catastrophic proportions separates them. As aftershocks roll the land, Beth and Donovan have to endure dangerous conditions while trying to find their way back to one another. Will they reunite and find the killer, or will they lose everything?

Bad week got better

Thank you for all your support and hugs after my last post. Today I finally got to the end of my revisions, only a few days late!

After realising the best words I'd ever written had disappeared into the ether (and therefore I can pretend they were the best words ever), I got down to re-writing them pretty quickly in case I lost the thread of what I'd been trying to say.

Some of you suggested waiting a few days, but I was far too worried to do that. By Wednesday evening, just before Castle started at 9pm, I reached the stage I thought I'd got to on Monday evening. And from there, I was able to proceed to the challenging end-of-the-novella. It's not the best ending in the world, but I'll be having another read through next week, and hopefully some new problems will rear their head.

Am I alone in thinking that if I can't find a problem to solve, the whole thing must be atrociously bad?

I'm pretty pleased with myself because since starting to rewrite this novella at the beginning of February, I have added 9000 words, hopefully made the main character a little more sympathetic and made the 'nasty husband' slightly less nasty so the end of the story makes sense.

My aims for the next round are:
  • turn the colours blue and green and red into more descriptive colours using this site
  • make sure the weather accurately portrays the time of year
  • possibly cut a few words, depending on whether I want to enter it into a competition or submit it
So, that's it. My goal for March was to get this novella finished, and I'm very securely within that. I deserve chocolate!

Did you have goals for March?
How are you doing with them?

In the middle of a crisis

I'm currently right in the middle of a crisis. I worked hard last night, and made some revisions to my current WIP that flowed so well. And then...

IT DIDN'T SAVE!

I didn't notice until this afternoon, because this morning I went back over a different part of the WIP and didn't think to check the end - why would I?

I actually felt sick when I realised. And then I sobbed - proper they-cancelled-Firefly sobbing. I shared my anguish on Facebook, because I needed immediate sympathy, and the dog just looked confused by the noise. Isn't Facebook fantastic for that kind of thing? My dear friends said just the right things.

I've been struggling with this novella for quite a while, and yesterday just seemed to work. I'd written the scenes out longhand, but then changed them as I went along, moving sections around so the story made more sense. And now, I can't remember a single thing.

I'm writing this post because every time I look at the WIP I want to cry all over again. This chapter is now going to be very different to how it was yesterday, which will have a knock-on effect on the ending. All the problems I'd figured out yesterday are now right back where they always were, and I have no idea how I solved them. I wish I had a photographic memory - it would be so useful right now.

Sometimes, writing isn't fun...

My cover reveal

I saw my new cover for the first time yesterday afternoon, and a couple of hours later it was finalised and I was given the go-ahead to share it.

I could have set up a cover reveal 'tour', but it all happened so fast and I got too excited to wait, so I splurged it over Facebook and my website. And now, in case you missed it, it's here too.

On my virtual travels...

Today I am over on The Five Year Project, telling Misha Gericke why I love entering competitions, and what they can do for you. Pop over and tell me about your competition experiences.

I haven't been around much, because I've been redrafting a novella. I was hoping to turn it into a novel, but at the moment it's just a slightly longer novella. But I've cleared up some dodgy plot issues, and improved some of the characterisation.

I've hit a bit of a problem with the last couple of chapters, though. I know what I want my poor character to suffer next, but I'm not sure if it actually makes sense in the life I've created for her. She's also started to whinge quite a lot about the same thing, over and over. So this isn't my final draft - I'm going to have to go back over it and work out where the whinging is a step too far.

With surprise, the other day, I opened up our local community magazine and saw me!

Thank you to everyone at Love Saltash. I'm just about getting used to people recognising me in the street now.

And here are the photos... (#2 - sightseeing in London)

And, especially for my oversees readers and friends, here are photos from the following day. We took a rather long, winding walk back to the train station, just so we could take pictures and go to toy shops!
Hamley's - Hubby's suggestion!

Lots of Harry Potter merchandise in Hamley's

Regent Street

Liberty's

The only bit of Selfridges I could photograph without buses in the way!

221b Baker Street, honest. If you look carefully at the glass
above the door, it says so.

The H.G. Wells plaque

I had a quick look for the Doctor, but he must
have been busy

Had a chat with Paddington instead
On our way home
